In the year, 2010...!

Hey Blogspot – long time no post!
(Sorry about that, btw)

So I think I kept about a third of my New Year’s resolutions for 2010: 2 out of 5 isn’t great, but it’s better than nothing, but it’s better than nothing….!

- cut back on the sugar.
- keep this blogspot account for the whole year.

And while I didn’t really keep track on exactly how much less sugar I consumed last year, I have to say that I’m pretty impressed I was able to blog as much as I did in 2010. And while I tend to think that 2010 was an overall crummy year in my life – see posts from last year – I’m pretty proud of some of the posts I wrote.

….particularly the one about Hipster-hate & my theory on why people hate L.A. (Although the one entitled “Speaking of movies…!" got the most comments by far ~ mostly SPAM, but still….!)

I’m also pretty proud of a lot of the things I actually set out to do that I got accomplished: my volunteering, competing in dance competitions, my promotion, etc. etc.

So maybe it *wasn’t* such a crummy year….!

Anyway – as I said in my first post of 2010 – I wanted to keep this blog for a year to see how I liked it….and I do (like it). And especially now that my new job takes up a lot more of my time, I probably won’t be able to commit to a blog like I should if I went back to Xanga, so I think I’m going to stick with Blogspot.

Also – it’s kind of a pain (for me and all of you) to just up-and-move blogs again……!

Happy 2011, everyone!
May it be the best year we’ve had yet!

Stay Cool....!

Work's been tough this past week.  (also the heat

I wanted to blog once more during September (to make it an even 'ten posts' this month) but I just got too busy.

So I'm gonna make it up by posting more this month (October).

Don't really have any thoughts sorted out right now though - so I'm just gonna post this video from my "new" favorite show:  Flight of the Conchords - check it out.

from the episode "The Tough Brets":
Bret creates a gang to help protect him from all the
rappers that he 'dissed' in his latest song.

STAY COOL, BRETT!

It's NOT "just a Blog"

I was going to post an entry about some of the other things that have been bugging me lately, but I just read this interesting article in the L.A. Weekly “Theatre section” which I wanted to write about.

The article, entitled “
I Blog Dead People,” (more about blogging than theatre - something I found odd) recapped a fact-checking faux pas when a L.A. Theatre critic posted an entry mourning the passing of another L.A. Theatre critic who wasn’t actually dead. The critic eventually posted another entry, apologizing for the error but tried to downplay it by saying that he was just writing something in a blog and that his mistake wasn’t as grave as people were making it out to be.

L.A. Weekly critic Steven Leigh Morris (writer of the article) seemed to have a bone to pick with this line of thinking as he noted these were the same people who wanted an ‘on-the-record’ interview with a theatre publicist so they could use it in a story they were putting on the same blog.

I found the point Morris makes here incredibly interesting because I’ve seen examples of this contradiction happen before: a prominent writer (who usually comes off as a little smug) will argue that blogging is a legitimate (and better) source of news because it can provide a faster and more in-depth look at things where journalism can’t, and then later argue that “it’s just a blog” when they’re called out on an error that they made in an entry.

Nice try, media bloggers, but you can’t have it both ways – if you’re going to argue that blogging is a legitimate source for news, then maybe you should treat it like one and subject it to the same fact-checking (and spell-checking, seriously) that the other media does. Or at least take responsibility for the error and correct it. Otherwise you’re just hurting your reputation – and that of bloggers everywhere.

Granted, a lot of bloggers don’t do this. A lot of them either check to make sure they’re accurate or say upfront that their claims are pure B.S., but this is important for anyone who blogs to keep in mind because blogging IS becoming a reputable source of news these days. Every company with a website probably has a blog function by now – and we should be able to trust what they say whenever it mentions something newsworthy.

Otherwise blogs would just be filled with baby pictures, online surveys and angst-ridden teen poetry.

Can you imagine? This guy has.

Blogger's Block

Forgive the lack of posts. Work has been kind of hectic lately with the boss out of town. (All her work falls to me when she's gone)

Plus - I can't really think of anything to blog about lately. Stuff's been happening, but I just don't feel the need / urge to write about it.

Here's a list of recent happenings in my life:
  • Pi Day - 3/14 (had some Pie w/Carol)
  • Got my digital camera fixed (for $80)
  • Daylight Savings ended (warmer jogs for me!)
  • Hung out in Venice with some friends on Friday (pricey town)
Nothing too big, right? I have some thoughts, but I think they're best left to when I have more time to think about them.

But in the meantime, gotta feed the blog.

How many is Too many?

Just so everyone knows, I’m moving here from Xanga for a year to see what Blogspot (Blogger?) has to offer me.

If I like it, I’ll stay.
If not, I’ll move back to Xanga
…..(or go on to Wordpress)

But I figured that since all the people I know in real life seem to use this site, there must be something good about it.

(I am digging all these “lists” that I can make on the side panels)

Plus I already use this site for my other blog ~
Stuff Raptor Jesus Likes (although I haven’t thought of something that Raptor Jesus likes in over 6 months) ~ so I figured, “why not just move altogether?”

Perhaps the change will prompt me to think of more things Raptor Jesus likes?

In any case, that’s now 3 blogs that I (somewhat) manage.

I’ve heard that this isn’t an uncommon thing – a lot of people will keep more than one blog, devoting at least one or more to specific topics or themes while keeping at least one personal “journal / diary” type blog for themselves.

Anyway, on the off-chance that I *do* already have a following (of real life friends + xanga subscribers who also own blogspot accounts), I ask the following question:

How many blogs do you (currently) have?
(de-activated / neglected for over a year blogs don’t count)
